Lawyer Thurgood Marshall in 1957. In 1955 Marshall argued against segregated schooling in the Brown v. Board of Education trial, with the Court ruling unanimously in his favor. In 1967, Marshall was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Lyndon Johnson, becoming the first African American Justice of the Supreme Court.
