Early Life and Education

Elizabeth Ann Parks Grinton was born on the 9th of May, 1916 in the Cairo community of Wilkes County, North Carolina.  She attended Lincoln Heights for her grade school education and graduated in 1935. She went on to Winston-Salem Teachers College, where she graduated with her bachelor's degree in 1947.1 In order to save money to attend graduate school, Mrs. Grinton worked as a domestic and drove up to New York for several summers during which she obtained her master's degree in elementary education from  Columbia University.2
